Individual Psychological Therapy

What should I expect:

At the first appointment your psychologist will undertake an assessment of the difficulties you are experiencing.  They will then discuss with you the best psychological treatment suited to your needs.

We integrate psychological therapy approaches to meet an individual's needs. Please see a brief description below for the types of psychological therapy approaches we use.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by becoming more aware of the way you think and behave.  Please click on the following link to the NHS introduction to CBT:

Psychodynamic therapy

This form of psychotherapy involves looking at the relational dynamics occurring in an individual's life.  The therapy addresses childhood experiences and other significant life events which have contributed to internal conflicts within an individual which may be resulting in psychological distress.

Systemic Therapy

EMDR

Systemic therapy is rooted in family therapy, a therapeutic adaptation of a larger interdisciplinary field known as systems theory.

Systems theory is a study of the complex systems present in nature, science and society, and its framework investigates and describes any group of objects that work together to produce a result. This could be a single organism such as a plant or a single human, or it could apply to a large organisation or indeed a family.

The therapy seeks to address people by understanding problems in a contextual framework within the system in which they live.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories
